Publisher Description

It’s been several months since Lina and Doon escaped the dying city of Ember and, along with the rest of their people, joined the town of Sparks. Now, struggling through the harsh winter aboveground, they find an unusual book. Torn up and missing most of its pages, it alludes to a mysterious device from before the Disaster, which they believe is still in Ember. Together, Lina and Doon must go back underground to retrieve what was lost and bring light to a dark world.

In the fourth Book of Ember, bestselling author Jeanne DuPrau juxtaposes yet another action-packed adventure with powerful themes about hope, learning, and the search for truth.

An Intriguing Sequel To "City Of Ember"-For Kids and Adults Alike!

I just finished this book last night and I must say, great job Jeanne DuPrau! She uses this book to wrap up the 4 book Ember series. She has done a wonderful job. The book begins where "People of Sparks" leaves off. It is winter and food and medicine are running scarce in Sparks. Doon gets the idea to return to Ember to see if there is any way to retrieve anything from his old, darkened city that may help. He convinces Lina to come along for the trip, and convieniently, there IS a way to climb down into the abandoned (?) city! What they find in their once-familiar city isn't what they expected, but even more unexpected, is the fantastic, hidden gift left for the people of Ember by the ancient Builders. Now they just have to figure out what it is and what it DOES! This book was a page-turner for me, and I'm sorry there are no more Ember books to read! Make sure you read both "Ember" and "Sparks" before reading this book. (Note: "The Profit of Yonwood", a PREquel to the others, isn't nearly as good....you could wait, and read it last, or not at all....)
