Liked it
I enjoyed this book for the most part. Grace, the heroine, drove me nuts at times. She was a bit too easy to give in when the hero was being an AH. During the big reveal of what was going on I really wanted her to put him in his place because he was being an extreme idiot, but I felt she gave in to easily in my opinion.
As for the suspense it took a bit long to get going but once it did I did not want to stop listening. This was the part of the book where I liked the heroine. Even though the CIA agent was supposed to be on the “good” side the author did a great job making me hate him. My only regret with the book is that no one decked him.
Overall I liked it. The heroine was annoying at times, but she wasn’t so frustrating that it interfered with enjoying the story. I loved how she took initiative and got involved in solving the mystery. The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life. The hero, Sean, was great in his own way. Yeah I wanted to deck him at times, but in the end he won me over.
First book in a spectacular series
4.5⭐️ rounded to 5 on review sites. The Dom Who Loved Me by Lexi Blake is Book 1 in the Masters and Mercenaries series, originally published in 2011 as a book and 2014 as an audiobook. This series is about a mercenary/security agency of spies who are also active in the BDSM/Kink community. Sean Taggart was hunting a deadly terrorist and his only lead was Grace Hawthorne, the Executive Assistant for the CEO of an employment agency which is suspected to have ties to eco-terrorists. His job was to use seduction to get close to Grace to learn what she knew, and he was delighted to find her naturally submissive nature, and before she knew it she was falling for Sean, submitting to him at night and trying to get to the bottom of some concerning issues at work during the day. Sean was falling hard for Grace, but was torn between his faith that Grace was innocent and evidence which seemed to suggest otherwise. Did he have a future with Grace when he wasn’t sure he could trust her and their relationship was based on a lie? This was a great audiobook! I am a big fan of this author, whose writing style is witty and spicy, and whose stories keep me engaged from beginning to end. This is a long-running series and I am looking forward to delving further into this world. The narrator was great and audiobook is a great option for devouring this novel! If you haven’t ever read the books in this series and are a fan of hot, romantic suspense, then this may be the book for you. I am voluntarily writing this honest review after listening to an advanced complementary copy of this audiobook thanks to Valentine PR and DLZ Entertainment LLC.
Wanted to love it
The Dom Who Loved Me is book 1 in the Masters and Mercenaries series. This is an age gap (older women), BDSM romance.
While I did enjoy the writing style, I struggled to connect with the characters. I felt that Sean and Grace’s chemistry didn’t flow easy, and the D/S aspect wasn’t as believable. The POV was an issue for me as well at times.
Ryan West did a nice job narrating.
