One of King's best.. one of the worst voices
I don't mind that the reader's narration sounds like a drunken C-3PO; when you're a fan of audio books you learn to not be annoyed by the way some people read, or voices they may use for certain characters.
But this guy's performance of 'Flagg', a central character, is nothing short of the worst I've heard. No hyperbole. I've never heard a performance so bad as to make the entire audiobook unlistenable. I don't blame the reader since we all sound different inside our own skulls, but how can you not blame the producer who sat in the control room nodding, managing to find it - not only acceptable - but liking it.
It's not even a matter of aesthetics, though those couldn't be worse. If Flagg had sounded anything like this, neither Thomas nor the King would have ever trusted him.
So I'm an audio engineer. I may not have the best voice, but I can't possibly do worse. So I'm making myself my own personal copy where I'm the voice of Flagg. I cannot share my copy, and if you're misfortunate enough to have to hear his performance, you'll want for mine. But so it goes.
