A warning in a dream. A face in the mirror. A race against time.

Selkie Moon is a woman on the run. In a mad dash for freedom she's escaped her abusive husband to start over in Hawaii. But her refuge begins to unravel and she's running from something else entirely. A voice in a dream says: "Someone is trying to kill you." Not that Selkie's psychic, no way. But the threats escalate until she's locked in a game of cat and mouse with a mysterious stalker. The mystery becomes so bizarre and terrifying that Selkie's instinct is to keep running. But is she running from her past or her future? And can she piece together the fragmented clues before time runs out?

The First Lie is a psychological thriller with a mythical twist, peppered with a cast of quirky characters. It's a story about secrets, about the shadows we don't know are driving us, from our mythical pasts and our present reality, told with a touch of humor.

Join Selkie Moon on the roller-coaster ride of her life. Roller-coasters make her throw up - but that's the least of her problems.

Enjoyed it!

I have only recently discovered the Selkie Moon mystery series, and “The First Lie” did not disappoint me in the slightest. In fact it really surprised me because it went into areas I didn’t expect it to go into! Not only is there mystery but also quite a bit of Celtic and Hawaiian mythology mixed in as well.

Lately I have been reading books where I was not too fond of the female protagonist, but that is definitely not the case with Selkie. I relate to her and I find her very likable.

I think the story was well-written and fast paced. No slow or plodding parts to the story. There was enough description to give you a perfect amount of detail but not too much where you might feel you’re being bogged down with useless information.

Since I listened to the audiobook version of “The First Lie” I would like to praise the narrator Katherine Littrell. She has fantastic tone, and a well-modulated, beautiful speaking voice. She switches between accents very well too. That is something I am really impressed by!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mysteries but are looking for something unique. I consider myself a fan and I will definitely continue following this series. :)
