SAVE LLELO!!!
The story was just as great as I remembered. It’s the narration that is the real problem here. Seeing that she doesn’t seem to know how to pronounce the English word moat, why should her Welsh pronunciations be trusted in the slightest? One of the Welsh words I was most excited to hear was Llelo’s name. I had found the pronunciation online, but looked forward to hearing it in context, hoping to get enough of a handle on how to properly say it to be able to read it without stopping to think about it. Instead, the narrator didn’t get anywhere near the proper pronunciation. Llelo is roughly “shello” or “hhehlo,” but the narrator calls this poor little boy “SHAY-la” which is a girl’s name and not even Welsh (it’s Irish). Someone please rescue poor Llelo from this horrible narrator.
