Publisher Description

At 4' 9" 97lbs Richard Flaherty is believed to be the smallest man to ever serve in the U.S. military. Needing a congressional waiver just to join the Army he achieved the impossible by becoming a Green Beret Captain and a Vietnam vet war hero earning the Silver Star, 2 Bronze Stars and 2 Purple Hearts. - 101st Airborne & 3rd Special Forces Group.

Author and police officer David Yuzuk befriended Richard J. Flaherty in 1999, when Flaherty was living homeless on the streets of Miami. Flaherty warned Yuzuk that asking too many questions about his secretive life could be bad for Yuzuk’s career and dangerous to his own health. Sure enough, eight hours after Yuzuk made a call to confirm Flaherty’s identity, Flaherty was killed in a hit-and-run and that sets the stage for a bewildering plummet down a rabbit hole of CIA conspiracies, and shadow governments. It would be the last investigation in Yuzuk's twenty-year police career, stretching from the bloody jungles of Vietnam to the dangerous streets of Iraq and Venezuela.

In riveting rifle, rucksack style author, David Yuzuk takes you deep into the jungles of Vietnam to walk in the combat boots of America’s smallest soldier, Richard Flaherty. Starting with the bloody Tet Offensive, Flaherty and his units are engaged in harrowing non-stop action. Written with extensive access to surviving members of the 101st Airborne and 3rd Special Forces Group, on-the-ground eye-witness, family members and friends, as well as archival, and declassified military records, Yuzuk has created a gripping narrative of Richard Flaherty’s inspiring life and career. Yuzuk also releases never published information of a covert operation Flaherty worked in order to locate and recover a recently declassified stolen weapon of mass destruction (Project Green Light).

An enjoyable, moving and inspiring book!

After hearing about this book on “The Glenn Beck Program,” I decided to purchase the audio book, to keep me entertained during my long commutes to and from work every day. It took a little while to get around to listening to it, but once I did, I was completely captivated!

Richard Flaherty was an amazing man, and his story could & should be made into a movie, because many parts of this man’s life are nothing short of exciting and heroic.

His service to this country and the sacrifices he made throughout his military career need to be celebrated and his life needs to be honored—and David Yuzuk does that very well with this book. The book/audio book is very well written, wonderfully narrated and draws the reader in by painting a picture with its descriptiveness and details.

There were things uncovered in this book that were downright disturbing to hear—the way the military let so many men hang out to dry, the undercover ops our own government was involved in with other countries and other revelations. Yes, call me naive….I’ve been red-pilled for a little while, but this book took me by surprise and every new piece of info within this book was more eye-opening than the last, and kept me enthralled all the way through.

The overall theme of this book—for me, at least—was that, even though you may think you know someone, you may be surprised at what you find out about that person, and never judge a book by its cover. Certainly, Richard Flaherty was a man that could easily be ignored by society as a “faceless” homeless man, but this man, who overcame so many obstacles in his early life to command troops in war and serve his country with honor, lived an extraordinary life, full of mystery, while sacrificing his personal life in the process.

The other overarching theme from this book, for me, is NEVER TRUST THE GOVT., but we already know this.

I highly recommend this book to everyone. Please spend some time reading this wonderful book about the life of this extraordinary man.

And a big THANK YOU to David Yuzuk, and his father, Neil, for the painstaking research it took to bring Richard Flaherty’s story to life and for sharing it with all of us.
