It’s about the disappearance forty years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden . . . and about her octogenarian uncle, determined to know the truth about what he believes was her murder.
It’s about Mikael Blomkvist, a crusading journalist recently at the wrong end of a libel case, hired to get to the bottom of Harriet’s disappearance . . . and about Lisbeth Salander, a twenty-four-year-old pierced and tattooed genius hacker possessed of the hard-earned wisdom of someone twice her age who assists Blomkvist with the investigation. This unlikely team discovers a vein of nearly unfathomable iniquity running through the Vanger family, astonishing corruption in the highest echelons of Swedish industrialism and an unexpected connection between themselves.
Contagiously exciting, it’s about society at its most hidden, and about the intimate lives of a brilliantly realized cast of characters, all of them forced to face the darker aspects of their world and of their own lives.

I enjoyed this book. I drive around alot, so it was nice to have something interesting to listen too. The book was hard to get into at first, but I hear that is true if you are actually reading it too. Great audio book. :)
Excellent read - you won
I thought this book was excellent and I love the way the author writes. It took me awhile to get past all the financial information in the beginning - UGH! - once I hit into the gist of the novel, I couldn't put it down. I think Salander is such an intriguing character and I loved the way she and Mikael interacted. This book kept me guessing all the way through and really surprised me at the end. I have already purchased the second book in hardcover. Get this; you won't be dissapointed.
Stieg Larsson is Incredible (or was)
His books are only for adults, for people whose attention span is longer than a minute, and are looking for great story, good but not great writing craft, and the most extraordinary female character written in many years. As an author myself, I find it more and more difficult to have books meet my high expectations (of myself as well) but his books (all three) made me read them from cover to cover, and actually buy them for myself after I read them (I also bought the film). As an adult I'm not a fan of JK Rowling or Stephanie Myers or any other best best sellers of recent times -- can't recall a time I've been this enthralled with a book(s). If you love strong female characters who are quirky, you can't go wrong with the Millennium Trilogy.
