INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER • From the bestselling author of Station Eleven and Sea of Tranquility, an exhilarating novel set at the glittering intersection of two seemingly disparate events—the exposure of a massive criminal enterprise and the mysterious disappearance of a woman from a ship at sea.
“The perfect novel ... Freshly mysterious.” —The Washington Post
Vincent is a bartender at the Hotel Caiette, a five-star lodging on the northernmost tip of Vancouver Island. On the night she meets Jonathan Alkaitis, a hooded figure scrawls a message on the lobby's glass wall: Why don’t you swallow broken glass. High above Manhattan, a greater crime is committed: Alkaitis's billion-dollar business is really nothing more than a game of smoke and mirrors. When his scheme collapses, it obliterates countless fortunes and devastates lives. Vincent, who had been posing as Jonathan’s wife, walks away into the night. Years later, a victim of the fraud is hired to investigate a strange occurrence: a woman has seemingly vanished from the deck of a container ship between ports of call.
In this captivating story of crisis and survival, Emily St. John Mandel takes readers through often hidden landscapes: campgrounds for the near-homeless, underground electronica clubs, service in luxury hotels, and life in a federal prison. Rife with unexpected beauty, The Glass Hotel is a captivating portrait of greed and guilt, love and delusion, ghosts and unintended consequences, and the infinite ways we search for meaning in our lives.

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Emily St. John Mandel is emerging as one of the most exciting literary voices around. Her previous bestseller, Station Eleven, centered on a Shakespearean troupe traversing a postapocalyptic America. In The Glass Hotel, she weaves together a deeply affecting, mesmerizing story that involves a luxe resort on a remote British Columbia island perpetually shrouded in fog; an estranged brother and sister flung apart by resentment, addiction, and betrayal; a Bernie Madoff–level Ponzi scheme; and a humungous container ship that serves as a refuge for the book’s main character, Vincent, when her life falls apart. Mandel’s scope is astonishing—and it’s brought to vivid life by actor Dylan Moore’s calm, fluid narration. The characters are so singular and specific they feel like they could be sitting right next to you.

This story strummed on my heart strings
I heard Kanye west say in a podcast that relationships are the most valuable from of currency life has to offer. This story for me grab that meaning in the most tragic and yet beautiful way. I believed music was the most influential/touching way to deliver a message, after reading this I see I was wrong. It’s authors like this that come up with a story that truly can be counseling for the soul. Never heard of this author before this book and how some of my relationship with my family was going I see now why something kept pulling at me to listen..Simply moving.
The Glass Hotel
I was truly disappointed with this purchase after having experienced some of Ms Mandel’s other works. It struck me as one long whiny depressive remembering of a cast of dark sociopathic narcissistic fringe millennials
