Publisher Description
This Pulitzer Prize–winning classic tells the poignant tale of a Chinese farmer and his family in old agrarian China. The humble Wang Lung glories in the soil he works, nurturing the land as it nurtures him and his family. Nearby, the nobles of the House of Hwang consider themselves above the land and its workers, but they will soon meet their own downfall.
Hard times come upon Wang Lung and his family when flood and drought force them to seek work in the city. The working people riot, breaking into the homes of the rich and forcing them to flee. When Wang Lung shows mercy to one noble and is rewarded, he begins to rise in the world, even as the House of Hwang falls.

A Mandatory Book for All Libraries
This is by Buck’s must spiritual book in my opinion and should definitely not be missed. The epic trilogy poses deep theological, religious and philosophical questions that leave the characters and the reader himself…even the author… soul searching for their answers to the deepest mysteries of life that mankind has searched for answers since time immemorial. These unknown mysteries in life are one thing that bind us all. We have have opinions, religious beliefs, scientific theories to what to argue a certain viewpoint against a differing opinion. But all are philosophy, objective and personal, subjective questions. There is not just one answer. Think outside the box. Look for alternative viewpoints from which to also approach the issue. And keep your feet firmly grounded on the Earth.
