Seconds before Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last fifteen years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.
Together, this dynamic pair began a journey through space aided by a galaxyful of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox—the two-headed, three-armed ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian (formerly Tricia McMillan), Zaphod’s girlfriend, whom Arthur tried to pick up at a cocktail party once upon a time zone; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; and Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he’s bought over the years.
Where are these pens? Why are we born? Why do we die? For all the answers, stick your thumb to the stars!

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
With his distinctively droll comic persona, British actor Stephen Fry is the ideal narrator for Douglas Adams’ funny science fiction classic. (He played the same role in the 2005 film adaptation!) After kicking off with the most hilarious apocalypse ever, things only get stranger for English everyman Arthur Dent, who stumbles through a surreal universe of hipster aliens, suicidal robots, and interstellar destinations. The key to making Adams’ anarchic comedy work is making it seem perfectly normal—and Fry does this beautifully. He brings all the cosmic madness to life while perfectly capturing Arthur’s stoic reserve.

Highly recommend audiobook version
The narrator was very entertaining, I felt lively engaged throughout the entirety of the story.
Wouldn’t recommend
I hadn’t seen the movie yet but the audio book reviews were good so I bought it. Very disappointed. This is the only audio book on my iPad that I’m deleting after listening once. I’ll try watching the movie and see if it is better than the audio book. It’s like the author was strung out on hallucinogens. Had a few comedy moments, but nothing to keep the listener interested.
One of my favorite books, made even better
Downloaded this prior to a weekend road trip, and was blown away by Stephen Fry’s narration. Beautifully voice work, perfectly suited to a beautifully absurd book.
