Publisher Description

Featuring George Smiley, The Honourable Schoolboy is the second installment in the renowned Karla Trilogy, the follow-up to the New York Times bestselling Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, which was the inspiration for the Oscar-nominated film starring Gary Oldman as George Smiley, Colin Firth and Tom Hardy.

As the fall of Saigon looms, master spy George Smiley must outmaneuver his Soviet counterpart on a battlefield that neither can afford to lose.

The mole has been eliminated, but the damage wrought has brought the British Secret Service to its knees. Given the charge of the gravely compromised Circus, George Smiley embarks on a campaign to uncover what Moscow Centre most wants to hide. When the trail goes cold at a Hong Kong gold seam, Smiley dispatches Gerald Westerby to shake the money tree. A part-time operative with cover as a philandering journalist, Westerby insinuates himself into a war-torn world where allegiances—and lives—are bought and sold.

Le Carre’s Best Book

Both brilliantly plotted and beautifully written. Le Carre’s word smithery was at its peak here. I re-read the early chapter set in the foreign correspondents club frequently when I feel my own writing is in need of inspiration.

Brilliant!

This is an amazing book. As a spy thriller set in Asia at the end of the American engagement in the Vietnam Nam war, (but mostly set inHong Kong) this book “has it all”.... It is densely packed with places, insights on all manner of spy craft, commitment, and drama. One of the best insights was Jerry “the Newshound’s” London editor opining on the great English novels set in Asia—and here we are in Le Carre’s.... At the center is a story about two brothers, that in itself is sad and remarkable, as are many of the relationships within.
As an audio book, it’s best to listen, and the re-listen as needed—there’s a lot going on and a listener should take their time.
