Laura Dave’s excellent thriller unfolds like a suburban nightmare, putting a woman’s commitment to her new family to an unimaginable test. A year into her marriage to Owen, Hannah’s biggest concern is being a civil stepmom to her husband’s sullen teenager, Bailey. But the night that Owen disappears, he leaves behind a note reading “Protect her.” This turbocharged setup launches us into a pulse-pounding story, as Hannah gets thrown for one loop after another and races to uncover her husband’s secrets even as the FBI and U.S. Marshals are banging on her door. Dave does a great job with the gripping twists—but we also love how she makes the fraught relationship between Hannah and Bailey seem very real. Narrator Rebecca Lowman adds to the drama, making us feel like we’re inside Hannah’s head. We couldn’t stop listening.

Good book
Reading was a little dry, but t enjoyed the storyline
Not a thriller
Plot is interesting at first but really falls short. I guess I was expecting more of a thriller. This is more….. just meh.
Incredibly boring
I have a long commute, thus listen to A LOT of audio books. This one has been by far my least favorite. There was one part of the book that was intriguing, but then… snooze fest. The narrator’s voice annoyed me. It was hard to finish.
