An alien ship rests over Water Island. For five years the people of the US Virgin Islands have lived with the Ynaa, a race of superadvanced aliens on a research mission they will not fully disclose. They are benevolent in many ways but meet any act of aggression with disproportional wrath. This has led to a strained relationship between the Ynaa and the local Virgin Islanders and a peace that cannot last.
A year after the death of a young boy at the hands of an Ynaa, three families find themselves at the center of the inevitable conflict, witness and victim to events that will touch everyone and teach a terrible lesson.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Rising science fiction star Cadwell Turnbull’s first novel is not your typical alien invasion story. The book opens with an otherworldly scientific team landing in the U.S. Virgin Islands to offer advanced technology in exchange for permission to study Earth. But these visitors are freakishly strong and prone to violence, quickly leading the islanders to question who exactly is in control. Turnbull isn’t interested in battles with bug-eyed monsters. Instead, The Lesson focuses on building strong human characters and giving the aliens surprising backstories. Veteran audiobook narrators Janina Edwards and Ron Butler dramatize the uneasy relationships between the human and alien characters and underscore Turnbull’s subtle social commentary. This is a smart, compelling listen.
Why two narrators?
Lacks direction and motive...
All in all, pretty bad
The book was amazing and the audio was VERY well read.
