INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

From the host of Tucker Carlson Tonight on Fox News and the New York Times bestselling author of Ship of Fools, a collection of nostalgic writings that underscore America’s long slide from innocence to orthodoxy.

Thirty years ago, Tucker Carlson got his first job out of college fact checking for a quarterly magazine, and he went on to write for many other publications before becoming the primetime Fox News host he is today. In The Long Slide, Tucker delivers a few of his favorite pieces—annotated with new commentary and insight—to memorialize the tolerance and diversity of thought that the media used to celebrate instead of punish. In snapshots spanning the 1990s to today, he’ll take you on a visit to Africa with Al Sharpton and members of the Nation of Islam to stop the civil war in Liberia in 2003, inside the (not-so-) secret armies of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and on the campaign trail with Donald Trump in 2016. In case you missed it the first time around, you’ll also learn about the aesthetic merits of British colonialism, the second shift at a baked bean factory, the unexpected charm of James Carville, and the simple beauty of rural western Maine.

With his signature wit and 20/20 hindsight, Tucker investigates in this patriotic and memorable collection a question on all of our minds: Has America really changed that much in recent decades? The answer is, unequivocally, yes.

Great Read

I highly recommend this book. Tucker takes you on a journey through the pass when America was a different country. A simpler time in history that I remember and miss. I wasn’t always a fan but can’t get enough this guy now. Great book!

Protect story tellers at all cost

No matter political ideology. Folks like this need to be preserved at all cost. They bring alive events through out the years with words that touch different folks for different reasons. I personally don't choke up or shed many tears but the chapter about contractors in Iraq and subsequent areas was like reliving 50 months, 12 days, and 18 hours of my life. The going home every 3 months was a nightmare. It's not like jet lag. You can't re-simulate in 2 weeks to go back and do it again. I wouldn't change it for the world though. I truly believe we made the biggest difference be it ever so small. Absolutely outstanding book. Worth a read and then listen to Tucker read it. 10/10.

Great Stories

All the lefty not-so-nice reviews clearly are from those incapable of understanding happy materials. The stories are fun and engaging and involve politics on both sides without any preferences pushed one way or the other. Respect is paid to anyone who deserves it and there is no agenda either direction. The stories of middle America are charming and I loved the ending of cleaning out the old family vacation home in Maine. If you hate Tucker, fine. Pretend it is some other talking head you do like and you’ll love this book.
