Hercule Poirot comes out of retirement in one of Agatha Christie’s ten favorite novels, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.
Roger Ackroyd knew too much. He knew that the woman he loved had poisoned her brutal first husband. He suspected also that someone had been blackmailing her. Then, tragically, came the news that she had taken her own life with an apparent drug overdose.
However the evening post brought Roger one last fatal scrap of information, but before he could finish reading the letter, he was stabbed to death. Luckily one of Roger’s friends and the newest resident to retire to this normally quiet village takes over—none other than Monsieur Hercule Poirot.

Holy Smokes
That was fantastic. Absolutely brilliant. Christie always makes such wonderful mysteries and covers them up so well. The twist was shocking, absolutely stunning. She masterfully played on our expectations then completely flipped the script and left me absolutely baffled. This is my fourth Christie novel and her title of Queen of Mystery is very well deserved. I highly recommend it. And if you will excuse me, I’ve got a murder mystery to write.
Loved it!!
Wonderful narrator!!
WHAT! So good!
Mentally I was making a list and notes of things I noticed or the reader had us notice but I was expecting the end! Wow! My first Agatha Christie book and I enjoyed it very much. Funny since I have seen the Hercule Poirot films and have the BBC mini series of And then there were none and I loved those too!
