Publisher Description
In this first novel by Agatha Christie, she introduces the inimitable Hercule Poirot, who would go on to appear in 33 Christie novels and 54 short stories. Outside of Sherlock Holmes and perhaps Philip Marlowe, he is the best-known detective in the history of the genre. The Mysterious Affair at Styles deals with the case of an old woman poisoned with strychnine for her money. Nothing is obvious, however, in the way Christie handles a plot. The story spirals round and round, leading the reader in one direction, then another, convincing the reader that first one character, then another is the guilty party.
Customer Reviews
Well narrated classic Christie
This book is professionally delivered in the narrative style, without attempts to create voice characters. Definitely worth the price.
The Mysterious Affair at Styles
I've been a huge fan of Christie for many years and am very familiar with "Styles." This was my first attempt at listening to an audio book, and I thought this was well done. It was easy to follow the flow of the story, and the pacing was good. The one thing I found kind of distracting was that the book is written from the view of Captain Hastings, Poirot's friend, however the reader is a woman. She did a great job of it, but I had to keep reminding myself that she was "Hastings"....something I'll think about when purchasing other audio books.
The affair at stiles
I was thoroughly enjoying this audiobook, until suddenly it stopped after about an hour and ahalf. Is there a remedy for this?
