Publisher Description
“The Near Witch” is only an old story told to frighten children.
If the wind calls at night, you must not listen. The wind is lonely, and always looking for company.
There are no strangers in the town of Near.
These are the truths that Lexi has heard all her life.
But when an actual stranger, a boy who seems to fade like smoke, appears outside her home on the moor at night, she knows that at least one of these sayings is no longer true.
The next night, the children of Near start disappearing from their beds, and the mysterious boy falls under suspicion.
As the hunt for the children intensifies, so does Lexi’s need to know about the witch that just might be more than a bedtime story, about the wind that seems to speak through the walls at night, and about the history of this nameless boy.
Part fairy tale, part love story, Victoria Schwab’s debut novel is entirely original yet achingly familiar: a song you heard long ago, a whisper carried by the wind, and a dream you won’t soon forget.
This new edition of The Near Witch also included the in-universe short story “The Ash-Born Boy” and a never-before-seen introduction from V. E. Schwab.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
V. E. Schwab’s dark and fantastical debut proves that some things—namely, witches, badass heroines, and clandestine romances—are timeless. The fable-like story revolves around the little town of Near, where children have begun to go missing. The townsfolk are quick to blame a mysterious newcomer, but rebellious teenager Lexi senses his innocence and believes something else its afoot. Between the chilling legend of the Near Witch and Lexi’s budding relationship with a handsome and seductive stranger named Cole, Schwab’s ability to pull you into an irresistible fictional world is already on full display in her first novel. The audiobook is narrated by Heather Wilds, who has an enchanting English accent, and features an infomative intro from Schwab herself, plus a bonus short story that reveals Cole’s origins. Discover the best-selling author’s early work: a perfect mix of love, mystery, and magic.

Worst Narrator Ever!!! Do not buy!!
Stephen Hawking could have narrated this and it would’ve sounded less robotic. I love this author and I’m sure that the story is fantastic but the terrible narration skills make this a chore to listen to. The cadence and intonation she uses makes every sentence a jarring experience that ends with the same upward lilt as ever other single sentence she reads. Bizarre.
