For the past decade or more, experts in artificial intelligence (AI) have been concerned with the advent of "the Singularity", that moment when machine intelligence equals and then rapidly surpasses human capabilities. In the first volume of his book on this topic, Frank White argues that a version of the Singularity may have already taken place (the Neosingularity). While we have been looking at the future, we have perhaps ignored the need to make AI policy in the present.
