Dr. James Dobson has completely rewritten, updated, and expanded his classic best seller The Strong-Willed Child for a new generation of parents and teachers. It offers practical how-to advice on raising difficult-to-handle children and incorporates the latest research with Dr. Dobson’s legendary wit and wisdom. The New Strong-Willed Child is being rushed to press for parents needing help dealing with sibling rivalry, ADHD, low self-esteem, and other important issues. This book is a must-read for parents and teachers struggling to raise and teach children who are convinced they should be able to live by their own rules!

Loved this book
If you’re wondering why your “conscious parenting” or “gentle parenting” is causing more outbursts and straight up defiance read this book. I have 3 boys and each topic Dobson went through made perfect sense. I sped read it - or rather sped listened to the audio book- and started implementing these practices and thought processes the next day. I can already see the difference in my kids and in me! With my calmness and my patience level and their responses to my requests as well. This book is definitely worth reading.
Feel free to skip the first chapter as he interviews past moms. Not that it’s not good… just hearing some of their stories made me question exactly how this book was actually going to be written and if it actually would be helpful or not. In my opinion that section should have been put at the end of the book.
Don’t pass this book by! I originally was given this book from my mother in law who used this as she raised my husband and his 2 brothers. Let me tell you that in alone speaks volumes. All 3 of her sons have a good relationship with her and my father in law to this day. Not to mention their house was the preferred household to hang out at when we were all 14-17.
If you follow these guidelines you will have a good relationship with your kid. I’ve seen it first hand.
Not helpful.
This book tells you pretty much what you already know. Additionally, it uses God and scripture to justify corporal punishment, and what I personally believe to be abusive tactics. Further, it never addresses the potential for ADHD and autism. Many “strong willed children” are “strong willed” because they have issues with their brain. This book ignores science.
