Graduate students Zoë and Holli only mean to blow off some steam on their road trip to Las Vegas. But something goes terribly wrong on their way home, and the last time Zoë sees her, Holli is in the clutches of a sadistic killer. Zoë flees with her life, changed forever.
A year later and still tortured with guilt, Zoë latches on to a police investigation where the crime eerily resembles her abduction. Along with a zealous detective, she retraces the steps of that fateful night in the desert, hoping that her memory will return and help them find justice for Holli. Her abductor--labeled the "Tally Man" by a fascinated media--lies in wait for Zoë. For him, she is not a survivor but simply the one that got away.
With an unforgettable heroine, a chillingly disturbed psychopath, and a story that moves at breakneck speed, The One That Got Away is thriller writer Simon Wood at his finest.

Don't let this one get away!
This book blew me away! From the very first sentence I was sucked in. It was so intense and kept me hooked all the way to the end. This review is for bothe the book and the audio. I read some and then switched to listening some. However, when I started listening, I couldn't stop! I had started at less than halfway through and didn't stop.
I loved the characters. Well, the bad guy I loved to hate. But they were all written so strongly. This made it all seem so real. The female lead was one of the best written lead characters I've come across. She was never annoying and she never gave up. The story was really intense and suspenseful. I also loved the part about the shelter for rescued fighting dogs. Brando really won my heart. I like how he got his revenge.
If you like fast pace and edge of your seat, this is for you. You won't be disappointed. The ending was great. I know this isn't a romance but I was so hoping Zoe and a certain character would hook up. I don't want to spoil any expectations so I won't say much about it, but it was left on a professional note. But the way it ended leaves the reader to think there could still be a possibility for that. So if you don't like side stories of romance in your reads, you won't have to worry about that in this book. This was everything I could ever hope for in a suspenseful thriller. Simon Wood is a very talented author!
