“It happened fast. Thirty-two minutes for one world to die, another to be born.”

An epic and gripping tale of catastrophe and survival, The Passage is the story of Amy—abandoned by her mother at the age of six, pursued and then imprisoned by the shadowy figures behind a government experiment of apocalyptic proportions. But Special Agent Brad Wolgast, the lawman sent to track her down, is disarmed by the curiously quiet girl and risks everything to save her. As the experiment goes nightmarishly wrong, Wolgast secures her escape—but he can’t stop society’s collapse. And as Amy walks alone, across miles and decades, into a future dark with violence and despair, she is filled with the mysterious and terrifying knowledge that only she has the power to save the ruined world.

Praise for The Passage

“[A] blockbuster.”The New York Times Book Review

“Mythic storytelling.”San Francisco Chronicle

“Magnificent . . . Cronin has taken his literary gifts, and he has weaponized them. . . . The Passage can stand proudly next to Stephen King’s apocalyptic masterpiece The Stand, but a closer match would be Cormac McCarthy’s The Road: a story about human beings trying to generate new hope in a world from which all hope has long since been burnt.”Time

“The type of big, engrossing read that will have you leaving the lights on late into the night.”The Dallas Morning News

“Addictive.”Men’s Journal

“Cronin’s unguessable plot and appealing characters will seize your heart and mind.”Parade

Great listen

Love the book. I love the vast time span it covers.

Just finished

This book is incredible. Disregard the previous bad review entirely, the story may have some less than completely original pieces but the author puts his own twist on it that makes it well worth the read. The writing makes you care for the characters and feel for them through all their trials and tribulations. The book is a drug. Impossible to put down short of a serious threat to life or limb. Come to think of it, I might have been willing to sacrifice a limb if it meant I could keep reading. This is the epitome of apocalyptic fiction. The perfect read.

Ok, I have to work overtime so I can make back the money I spent on this audio abomintaion

Jesus Undead Christ!! The Passage reads like a first draft script of a bad mini-series you'd see on the SyFy network. There's not one original moment in this book! Let's see, the government unleashes a virus that wipes out 99% of the population turning most folks into savage, undead, blood-swillin' freaks.....Hmmmm....where have I seen this before?...Oh yeah!... EVERY ZOMBIE/VAMPIRE MOVIE, BOOK, AND VIDEO GAME THAT'S COME OUT IN THE LAST 30 YEARS!!! " I Am Legend," "28 days Later," " Resident Evil," "Dawn of the Dead," " The Stand" " Zombie F---ing Land," C'mon! "The Passage" is a dismal, undead, patchwork quilt sewn together with scenes from different books and films that did the end of days a hell of a lot better. A little girl who never ages! ( Interview with a Vampire.) Spooky little girl talks to the polar bear behind the glass at the zoo! ( Harry Potter had that same conversation with a snake in the " Sorcerer's Stone.") A secret government facility where everything goes wrong! ( The Stand) Blood thristy vampire mutants! ( I Am Legend.) An FBI agent travels cross country with the little girl and little girl leaves him to die alone! ( The Road.) Just when you think the " The Passage" can't get anymore cliche' and stupid, the book leaps decades into the future to a society that has to live behind huge walls, fight for their lives, and raise sheep! ( The Postman, The Road Warrior, Waterworld, Book of Eli, and any other movie that comes on HBO at 2 AM.) Hell, the only thing missing are the monkeys from "Planet of the Apes." Believe me, half way through " The Passage" I was praying for some heavily armed oranguatans to go on a killing spree. Part 3 of this book deals with teenagers who have to guard the fence from vampire attacks. It's "90210" meets the " Omega Man!" Seriously, somebody stick a screwdriver in my ear so I don't ever have to listen to this audio book again. Look, if you want a post-apocalyptic emotional kidney punch then read " The Road" or better yet, pick up a copy of " The Stand." No one has ever written the downfall of mankind with such malevolent glee as Stephen King. BTW..What the hell are you doing writing a good review for this Stephen!?!! Does Justin Cronin have naked pictures of you with Sarah Palin and a moose? Yeah, I'm a little bitter. I was really looking forward to " The Passage." $52.00 would have bought alot of online porn. Skip this.
