An interesting plot littered with anachronisms

If one overlooks the anachronisms, and historical errors, “The Plan” is actually a very good book. The plot is interesting and provides a good amount of tension.

However, since historical fiction can influence the reader’s understanding of a time period, I like it to be historically accurate. As to the anachronisms in “The Plan” one case in point - takeout food in styrofoam containers did not yet exist in the 1950s. The 1930s’ content, i.e. the Dust Bowl years, seemed fairly accurate and true to the time period. The severe thunderstorm that is a significant event in the story felt discordant to the reality of the Dust Bowl years. However, there actually were severe thunderstorms across eastern Colorado in May of 1935. So the storm in “The Plan” is simply set historically in the wrong year. Inaccuracies such as this I can overlook since it led me to correct my knowledge of the Dust Bowl years.
