Great book
Love the Linkin Park reference “One more Light”
Sociopathic/Psychopathic Edgelords
A main character who is a socially awkward sociopath and minor edgelord, and a primary antagonist who is a psychopathic edgelord who only got powerful because the author was too lazy and macguffined an overpowered item into the story. Very hard to connect with any character, much less care about them, seems to be a self-insert with an emphasis on hating people who have social skills.
Good story, worth reading but…
The story is a really good and fits the LIT RPG genre well. Is written in a way that lets you feel as if you truly are in the world and along for the ride, as you get a full view of what the main character “Jake” is thinking, feeling and experiencing. It’s easy to picture and imagine the world as the story progresses and characters are relatable and well written. The problem I have, is the very frequent tangents that the writer goes off on, that are with out a doubt meaningless, pointless and story interrupting to the point of serious irritation. These tangents are usually random thoughts that “Jake” has, that have nothing to do with or any bearing on the story. They are usually short and some might say added to give insight on Jakes thought process. But they are constant throughout all books and it seems as soon as story tension is built, Jake has to have this random thought that needs a full explanation before digression and then back to the critical part of the story that was previously being built up. It’s constant, jarring, boring and intrusive when it happens. You know that person that never lets you get off the phone and has one more thought that lasts 5 more minutes, over and over? That’s what the author does with Jakes thoughts during critical moments in the story. Get past that and it’s a great, fun story.
