Publisher Description

From international bestseller Michael Koryta, a page-turning new thriller in which the killer of a teenage girl terrorizes a small town and reopens decades-old wounds.

Adam Austin hasn't spoken to his brother in years. When they were teenagers, their sister was abducted and murdered, and their devastated family never recovered. Now Adam keeps to himself, scraping by as a bail bondsman, working so close to the town's criminal fringes that he sometimes seems a part of them.

Kent Austin is the beloved coach of the local high school football team, a religious man and hero in the community.

Just before playoffs begin, the town and the team are thrown into shock when horrifically, impossibly, another teenage girl is found murdered. As details emerge that connect the crime to the Austin brothers, the two must confront their buried rage and grief-and unite to stop a killer.

An emotionally harrowing, unstoppably suspenseful novel that Donald Ray Pollock has called "one of the sharpest and superbly plotted crime novels I've read in my life."

Its about football

Just a heads up. The Prophet is a pretty good Michael Koryta book, and the narrator is fine. But just so you know, the story is 85% about American high school football--the players, the coaches, the strategies, the wins and the losses. There is a murder mystery in there, sort of woven inside the football talk, but seems to be put there as a backdrop for talking about football. So, if you are a football fan, you'll probably love this book! If you aren't, you might think it's...tiring. I usually really enjoy Michael Koryta. The Prophet gave me a headache. Oh well, it's not for everybody.
