Sure, we’re fascinated by Princesses Kate and Meghan, but the current royal family has nothing on the Tudors when it comes to high-stakes drama. Set in the 15th century, The Red Queen centers on Margaret Beaufort, the matriarch of the Tudor line and grandmother to the villainous Henry VIII. Novelist Philippa Gregory is a wizard at crafting well-researched and entertaining historical fiction with dashes of romance. In her telling, Margaret plots and prays her way through the decades-long Wars of the Roses, remaining laser focused on her goal: seeing her only child crowned King of England. Actress Bianca Amato gives this literate, religious woman and ruthless power player an appropriately regal bearing. This audiobook immersed us in a tumultuous world of court intrigue and took us on the roller-coaster ride of a powerful queen’s life.
