“Douglas Adams is a terrific satirist.”—The Washington Post Book World

Facing annihilation at the hands of the warlike Vogons? Time for a cup of tea! Join the cosmically displaced Arthur Dent and his uncommon comrades in arms in their desperate search for a place to eat, as they hurtle across space powered by pure improbability.

Among Arthur’s motley shipmates are Ford Prefect, a longtime friend and expert contributor to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy; Zaphod Beeblebrox, the three-armed, two-headed ex-president of the galaxy; Tricia McMillan, a fellow Earth refugee who’s gone native (her name is Trillian now); and Marvin, the moody android. Their destination? The ultimate hot spot for an evening of apocalyptic entertainment and fine dining, where the food speaks for itself (literally).

“What’s such fun is how amusing the galaxy looks through Adams’s sardonically silly eyes.”—Detroit Free Press

Really quite enjoyable

In an attempt not to fall all over myself praising this book, I have developed a criticism: It's really not a separate book, just the conclusion of the first. That's it. That's the only criticism I can come up with.

This is a very imaginative, creative, and funny book. I hate those who call it silly or foolish. This is high social satire. This is Lenny Bruce in space. This is wonderful.

But you have to read the first Hitchhiker's Guide first. Don't start here.

I wish Mr. Adams had lived long enough to see the iPad, what a confirmation that would have been.

This is probably the best of the series. I love how the first part of the story focuses on Zaphod. Martin Freeman does a great job narrator. I highly recomed it.

Five stars for the story

The story is immaculate and I have no criticism of it, but I found that at parts the recording would speed up and there was nothing I could do but wait it out. I seem to be the only one to experience this of all the reviews. I chalk it up to the possibility that it's my iPod (the screen was recently cracked) and I haven't tried it on my new one.
