Pulitzer Prize, Fiction, 2007

America is a barren landscape of smoldering ashes, devoid of life except for those people still struggling to scratch out some type of existence. Amidst this destruction, a father and his young son walk, always toward the coast, but with no real understanding that circumstances will improve once they arrive. Still, they persevere, and their relationship comes to represent goodness in a world of utter devastation.

Bleak but brilliant, with glimmers of hope and humor, The Road is a stunning allegory and perhaps Cormac McCarthy's finest novel to date. This remarkable departure from his previous works has been hailed by Kirkus Reviews as a "novel of horrific beauty, where death is the only truth".

McCarthy, a New York Times bestselling author, is a past recipient of the National Book Award and National Book Critics Circle Award. He is widely considered one of America's greatest writers.

"THE ROAD" by Cormac McCarthy

What a sad and profound story from the view of both father and son. The boy, never to see the world when it was worthy. The man who saw the worthy parts of the world, lost it all and could not even explain what is was before. The world left, leaving them to become each others world.....but for how long? A sad, depressing tale worth every letter, every syllabal. The narrarater's voice was perfect for every character. It gave bones and blood and breath to the man and his son. Mostly he gave them hearts. Listen to this book, not once, but three times - it will change you.

My favorite book of all time!!

Cormac McCarthy captured the best and worst qualities of mankind in this marvelous piece of work. Revealing to readers the extremes that we all are capable of going to survive. While simultaneously highlighting the unyielding, love and sacrifice a father had for his son. Even when the world became a hopeless wasteland; one father was able to instill hope and faith in his son. A boy who never knew anything other than a post apocolyptic nightmare. Truly touching, multifaceted, and beautiful....My favorite part was when the boy had his first soda...Changed my whole outlook on life, the importance of humility and the appreciation of the little things which we all take forgranted.
