Publisher Description

We are a diminishing group of men and women whose amazing experience actually resembles the incredible experience described in the original “Big Book.” To show other alcoholics, through the heavy use of sarcasm, precisely how far away from that message we have strayed is the main purpose of this book. For them, we hope these chapters will effectively point out the absolute ridiculousness of much of what is commonly spoken, taught, and accepted in the world of recovery today, thus inspiring a reevaluation of the actual “Big Book”. What is written here may be found offensive to some. And maybe it should be - because this book contain nothing but a sadly accurate description of exactly what has been constantly reflected back to its author for several decades.

Sheila Burns ,

Slow start then so accurate it’s hilarious

I read the first edition. The sarcasm didn’t really kick in for me until I got to about page 20, but then I was literally laughing out loud, for most of the rest of the book.
I had excellent , empathetic, listening sponsors who did guide me as best they were able without being big book thumpers or being demanding of or demeaning to me.
But when it came to 4th step,I really had to strike out on my own guide myself thru the big book and really follow the very specific but, not numbered directions.
(Not perfectly of course; I’m only human)
I don’t recall ever reading my 4th step to anyone but I did make a list and worked at making amends, owning my failures in past relationships of all kinds.
But I got tired of listening to people in AA use meetings as a talking circle, taking turns venting their day today frustrations with life and things not going their way without out ever referencing the solution or the steps. They’d acknowledge their shortcomings but shrug them off with something like “cuz I’m still so alcoholic.”
Eventually I used AA as a bridge to a new life, as it was intended to be. I found a path that specifically rang true to my spiritual sensibilities and allowed me a more ideal identity than merely being an alcoholic. Although I left AA behind, I’m always grateful to it and my sponsors for how they did help me turn away from alcohol as a solution or at a temporary relief from my problems, so that I could better look at myself as a primary cause.
I think the laughter bad truth this book provides could be very helpful to those for whom it hasn’t yet been a bridge.

I laughed, felt attacked and cried. Brilliant message. Listen until the end. God had a sense of humor too and it’s wonderful.

Gopooooo ,

Typical old school AA crap. Worship of an antiquated book.

These are the types that buy into the whole big book cult and therefore deem others experiences as wrong.
The AA Taliban is alive and they think they are clever. Its a cultish understanding of recovery. They worship a boom written in the 1930’s by a man with 1 1/2 years sober. Somehow god only talks to bill w.
Grow up.
