Publisher Description
Inextricably linked with the fatwa called against its author in the wake of the novel's publication, The Satanic Verses is, beyond that, a rich showcase for Salman Rushdie's comic sensibilities, cultural observations, and unparalleled mastery of language. The tale of an Indian film star and a Bombay expatriate, Rushdie's masterpiece was deservedly honored with the Whitbread Prize. "Swift's Gulliver's Travels, Voltaire's Candide . [Rushdie] is very much a latter-day member of their company."-New York Times Book Review

Unnecessarily draggy and facts are wrong
The book is slow, there’s a number of characters Rushdie has uselessly inserted who barely serve any real purpose other than to lengthen this book. He also has his timings incorrect. My understanding is that the Satanic verses were corrected not days or weeks but more than a couple of years after its revelation. I dont think i will be able to finish this book. I liked the concept about how he tries to provide context and a backstory to this event but the way he goes about it feels too long drawn.
