I was drawn in on the first page!
The Setup by Kristen Proby is part of the Singles in Seattle series, a With Me in Seattle series off-shoot about the children of the original With Me in Seattle characters. This book is about Keaton Williams, the son of Luke and Natalie Williams of the original book and Sydney Sterling, the sister of Grayson Sterling, who was featured in The Scandal. Keaton refurbished vintage cars, often for celebrities and Sydney was a Country and Western music star. Keaton and Sydney had met and hooked up previously at a family wedding, and when, with her career at a crossroads, she came to visit her brother and his fiancé in Seattle (of course) on a much needed break from touring and recording albums. This is a sex only trope with a celebrity averse hero, making this an “impossible” relationship.
I loved this book. The author has a knack for drawing her readers in on the first page and not releasing them even when they reach the end. The story is full of emotion, main characters with tragic flaws to overcome, and enough steam to cook my broccoli! I have never read a Kristen Proby novel that I did not adore. I am really behind on this series and I now am doubly motivated to catch-up as soon as possible. If I had any criticism for this story it would be that the hero’s change of heart happened abruptly and the ending sudden, but I might not have been ready to say goodbye to this couple. This book will appeal to readers of contemporary romance with a bit of wit, a solid story, and a good dose of the feels, similar to those of Jill Shalvis or Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I cannot imagine anyone going wrong with this title. which functions well enough as a stand-alone book, but will be that much more enjoyable if one has read the books leading up to this one in order. This would help the reader to better understand the dynamics of this super impressive and spectacularly large family. I definitely recommend the book, which I give 4.5/5 stars.
