Publisher Description

After their epic journey across Europe, Ayla and Jondalar have reached his home, the Ninth Cave of the Zelandonii, the old stone-age settlement in the region known today as southwest France. Jondalar's family greet him warmly, but they are initially wary of the beautiful young woman he has brought back, with her strange accent and her tame wolf and horses.

Ayla has much to learn from the Zelandonii and much to teach them. She is intrigued by their clothes, their crafts, and their home, and wants to learn their customs and the ways that they live, so that she will fit in. She is delighted when she meets Zelandoni, the spiritual leader of the people, a fellow healer with whom she can share medicinal skills and knowledge. The Zelandonii are surprised to learn she was found and raised by the Clan, the ones that they call flatheads and think of as animals, and are skeptical when she tells them they are people.

After the rigors and dangers that have characterized her extraordinary life so far, Ayla yearns for peace and tranquility, to be Jondalar's mate, and to have children. But her unique spiritual gifts cannot be ignored, and even as she gives birth to her eagerly-awaited child, she is coming to accept that she has a greater role to play in the destiny of the Zelandonii.

Best So Far

I have to say that as a series, The Earth's Children is extremely well done. Ms. Auel does an excellent job of providing detailed descriptions of Ayla's surroundings and the many people she meets. But where some of the series has, at times, been mired down in the daily details of every little plant or animal that Ayla and Jondalar encounter, The Shelter's of Stone really focuses on the daily lives of the people. Ms. Auel's knack for rich details and description, allows her to fully flesh out amazing character development of a cast of hundreds. And her ability to carefully weave a story, is rivaled by some of the best suspense and thriller writers out there today. Fans of the Harry Potter series, or the Outlander series would do well by this story. Keep in mind that on the whole this is a collection of romance novels, skipping over the sex scenes still provides a very rich tale of a woman and the crucial role she fills in the lives of so many.

So far, this is the best book in the series for me.

Poor download

The book and reader are great; however the download does not seem to work. In the sections downloaded, part 2 of 4 is corrupt. Chapters skip from chapter 11 to chapter 21. I have emailed itunes express lane about it. They sent me another download copy, unfortunately it has the same problem. PLEASE FIX IT ITUNES!! I am really enjoying the audiobook and continue listening to it.
