Before Doctor Sleep, there was The Shining, a classic of modern American horror from the undisputed master, Stephen King.
Jack Torrance’s new job at the Overlook Hotel is the perfect chance for a fresh start. As the off-season caretaker at the atmospheric old hotel, he’ll have plenty of time to spend reconnecting with his family and working on his writing. But as the harsh winter weather sets in, the idyllic location feels ever more remote . . . and more sinister. And the only one to notice the strange and terrible forces gathering around the Overlook is Danny Torrance, a uniquely gifted five-year-old.

Much like a lot of people, I watched the movie first years and years ago. I never picked up the book because I new Stephen king was known for his extremely lengthy novels. But after hearing how good the book was, and how much was omitted from the movie, I decided to get the audiobook out of curiosity. Of course , I know you can’t fit everything into a movie so when I started this audiobook, I was absolutely delighted to learn what the movie kept and changed to adapt to film (like the topiaries being swapped for a hedge maze!!) . I loved every second of it and if I had 15 hours to spare, I would listen to it all over again !
