Now that Pern can look forward to a future without the threat of Threadfall, the people are free to leave their protective stone holds and spread across more of the planet, as well as improve their lives with the newly discovered ancient technology. Not everyone is happy, though. Some resist the change, and consider anything new to be an "abomination". And the dragonriders are uncertain: without Thread, what will their purpose be in Pernese society?
Then a new danger - again from the skies - looms. Once again, the people must pull together...And turn to the only ones who can solve the crisis: the dragonriders of Pern!
Great Read, Epescially for those who want more.
This is currently the final chapter in the main plotline of the series, during the 9th Pass. It is read after the All the Weyrs of Pern. The plot takes a look at the early results of the actions in All the Weyrs of Pern, with some themes remaining prevalent from the previous book. Nothing groundbreaking, but an exciting new chapter that continues the tale of the characters introduced earlier in the series, as well as a new one here or there. The writing is excellent, but this feels almost like an epilogue to the previous book, though it is a stand alone story and can be enjoyed by itself. This seems to wrap up any loose ends of the overarching plot.
