Publisher Description

In a sleepy, coastal, New England town, three men decide to rob and, if need be, torture a very old sea captain to learn where he keeps his wealth - a man who is so old no one ever remembers him being young; a man who pays for his purchases not with dollars but with ancient gold and silver coins minted over two centuries ago; a man who speaks to spirits in bottles; a man who may not be a man at all.

Perhaps this should be titled "The Terrible Narration Man"

In recent years, I have experienced more and more the rising "trend" in popularity towards Lovecraft's work. I might say that was a good thing were it not for the fact that 90% of Lovecraft-related material coming out today is... crap. Whether it be merchandise (those god-awful ridiculous dolls which cheapen the greatness and the horror that Lovecraft's work once inspired) or whether it be in the form of a type of media (all of the stupid, supposedly Lovecraft-based films out there) so much of it is pure garbage. Garbage consumed, digested, and excreted into more filth by the youth culture of today who have no real appreciation for the stories (can you honestly tell me that COW-THULU is not meant to be mockery of the highest degree?) nor can they even understand the true scope of Lovecraft's work, preferring instead to accept that "mythos" idea thrust upon them by a game company in the 1980's as what should be Lovecraft's "true vision".

And now this. I am sorry but this trite, sad attempt at entertainment is at once unpleasant, cheap, and offensive to a real fan such as myself. This work has no emotion, the narrator has no talent as a vocal actor, the sound effects are horrible, and the choice of background sounds (from random screaming to a synth rendition of “this Old Man”… really?) is atrocious. Overall the experience is dreadful and even embarrassing. If your goal was to create a lush soundscape and a rich atmosphere in which to build a dark mood to match the telling of this great piece of fiction, you have failed. Please, I ask that you do no more of these. Spare us your terrible renditions of otherwise fabulous tales.

I’d have given it ZERO stars, if such option were available.
