Ganesha is torn between staying with his wife or leaving. So when he goes on a year long retreat at a five-hundred-year-old hacienda in Mexico, he finds himself caught in past troubles and a growing love affair with a wildflower named Rati. 

During his time at the hacienda, he is thrown into many situations that make him confront his past and embrace what he is learning from the monks at the retreat center. This story contains forbidden love, conflict, and struggle, and it ends with an unexpected mystical experience that will continue to unravel for many years after he leaves Mexico.
