You Can't See Them. But They Can See You.

This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams.
Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time.
Afraid and trapped among strangers, Mina is desperate for answers. Who are the watchers and why are these creatures keeping them imprisoned, keen to watch their every move?

IMO, wasn’t worth it.

When I was reading the synopsis of this book, I was really intrigued! It sounded interesting and creepy. Unfortunately, it was hardly any of that. The creatures were creepy and it started out pretty good. But then the story just became dull- so much missed potential. The characters were incredibly dull and really never developed in my opinion. Two of them were whiny and boring, one was there to basically tell majority of the story, and the other had no depth (although I will say that was kind of part of the story, but still). There are some really vivid and great details, but they were wasted. Even with the details, I still had a hard time getting into the story- it started so slow and just stayed slow. A lot of things introduced that honestly didn’t add anything to the story and just drug everything out (like Mina’s relationship with her sister). The dialogue between characters is so uninteresting, even the inner dialogues are painfully flat. The “thrilling” parts were disappointing. The story just never felt developed and I only finished it because I paid for it. The end also dragged, despite the twist (that you will clue into before it’s revealed) and honestly by that point I just didn’t care anymore. In my opinion, wait for this to be free if you really have to read/listen to it.
Update: I just watched the movie and it’s also not great. I just feel like this story never really gets developed and there’s just a lot of holes. The movie changed up quite a bit from the book.
