For Durzo Blint, assassination is an art-and he is the city's most accomplished artist, his talents required from alleyway to courtly boudoir.
For Azoth, survival is precarious, something you never take for granted. As a guild rat, he's grown up in the slums and learned to judge people quickly-and to take risks. Risks like apprenticing himself to Durzo Blint.
But to be accepted, Azoth must turn his back on his old life and embrace a new identity and name. As Kylar Stern, he must learn to navigate the assassins' world of dangerous politics and strange magics-and cultivate a flair for death.

An amazing debut for Brent Weeks
I bought the book series on a whim. I needed something to read and I thought, due to the cover art, it might be somewhat related to Assassin's Creed and might be interesting. This is not the case, but I found myself pleasently surprised anyway. This book is simply fantastic and when the other two books are released on audiobook I will most definitely buy them as well. This might be my new favorite fantasy epic to date, and be sure, the story is quite epic. Azoth's tale and his transformation into Kylar and eventually into a legendary hero is simply fantastic and the story full of twists and turns and awesome action. Buy this book and you won't regret it.
Buy it, Read it, Love it.
Great series, I coudn't put it down. I read it rather than listen to it though. I was browsing the bookstore and noticed this gem because of the cover art, LOL, but it was phenomenal. The only downside to the book was that the story broke up a couple of times and jumped to other charactors who were less important, and these charactors never really developed well. I DID find that annoying. However, later in the series some of the charactors whom I thought were pointless came back into play, like Dorian for instance.
All in all, I cant wait to read more from this author, great writing! The kind of writing that makes you forget life altogether!
I love this series. Mr. Weeks has the balls to write things other dark fantasy writers do not. I would even compare him to the late Robert E. Howard in terms of describing atmosphere and violence/sex. Tasteful, but brutal...You must check it out for yourself. The cover looks like a snapshot from Assassin's Creed...the video game. The setting and story are not exactly the same, but If you enjoy that game at all, you will LOVE this series.
