Publisher Description
A "dreamlike and compelling” tour de force (Chicago Tribune)—an astonishingly imaginative detective story, an account of a disintegrating marriage, and an excavation of the buried secrets from Japan’s forgotten campaign in Manchuria during World War II.
Now with a new introduction by the author.
In a Tokyo suburb, a young man named Toru Okada searches for his wife’s missing cat—and then for his wife as well—in a netherworld beneath the city’s placid surface. As these searches intersect, he encounters a bizarre group of allies and antagonists. Gripping, prophetic, and suffused with comedy and menace, this is one of Haruki Murakami’s most acclaimed and beloved novels.

Great
Good book. The plot takes a long time to become clear - and even when it does, it’s vague, disjointed, and (honestly) left me a little unsatisfied. But the writing is unique. He takes historic accounts and twists it into the plot in a surprising and unexpected way.
no
awful narration. please just read it I can’t do this dude’s woman voice at all, it’s terrible. and I really don’t like how matter of fact he reads the dialogue.
Wrong Narrator Choice
I suggest listening to Killing Commendatore. The narrator was perfect. This narrator is just wrong for a Murakami novel. He sounds like a harried, fussy Brit. That’s got nothing to do with the style of a Murakami novel. Can’t imagine who signed off on this choice.
