When Morvath imperils the Wisteria Society, Cecilia is forced to team up with her handsome would-be assassin to save the women who raised her--hopefully proving, once and for all, that she's as much of a scoundrel as the rest of them.

A roper English lady pirate
The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels by India Holton is a Victorian period novel which combines historical fiction, fantasy, suspense, and romantic comedy. It was the debut novel of this author and the first book in the series Dangerous Damsels. It is a really original premise about lady pirates who formed the Wsieria Society. The main characters are Cecilia Bassingate and Ned with so many names and occupations it is difficult to say what he is or if he is all of them simultaneously. Cecilia is the combination of a proper English Lady and a scandalous lady pirate who spends her days drinking tea, stealing from people around her, and upholding the standards of the Wisteria Society. Ned is smitten with Cecilia at first sight, despite the fact that he has been ordered to kill her. He is in the employ of Captain Morvath, who had murdered Cecilia’s mother and has a dastardly plot to rid England of presumptuous women.
I was late to this party but I’m onboard now. This was a highly entertaining audiobook with an engaging narrator. The story is excellent. The plot is clear and has a distinct conclusion. Listening to a book with women who had control over their own destinies in a time period when this was not the case was very appealing. The story had elements of a thriller/suspense novel as the characters are pressed into duty to save England. The characters are like characteristic of the fictional pirate and the story is told with a great deal of humor. There is a little spice, but that is not the main focus of the novel. I am really looking forward to listening to the next novel, The League of Gentlewomen Witches which is already available. I highly recommend this book, which I would give 4.5 stars.

I laughed a lot, it is quirky and clever. I wholeheartedly recommend this delightful romp.
