Publisher Description
This audiobook is drawn from the universe of Severance, the globally acclaimed hit Apple Original series from director and executive producer Ben Stiller and creator Dan Erickson.
Are you ready to meet the person who truly makes you “You”: You?
In his quinquennial tome, Dr. Ricken Lazlo Hale, PhD guides You on a brave journey of self-learnedness. Fertile with mind-engorging insights, The You You Are is an invitation to merge with your true “You,” and expel from your essence the dead-eyed conventionalism that has defined your life since infancy.
For the first time ever, Dr. Ricken’s luminous writings are available in digital format, only on Apple Books. Though librarians strongly urge reading his complete oeuvre, this audiobook — featuring the inaugural eight chapters from The You You Are — is sure to tickle both the completist and the layman. In addition, enjoy an exclusive letter of apology from the author himself, addressed to none other than YOU.
In Severance, Mark Scout (Adam Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in “work-life balance” is called into question as Mark - a widower who happens to be Dr. Ricken Hale’s brother in law - finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work … and of himself.

A Most Glorious Testament to the Soul’s Splendiferous Unfolding
My darlings, rarely does one stumble upon a tome so profoundly illuminating, so tantalizingly perspicacious, that it demands to be read not once, but thrice—each perusal revealing a new layer of its ineffable genius. The You You Are by the esteemed Dr. Ricken Hale is precisely such a work, a literary triumph of the highest order, brimming with existential veracity and a most sumptuous verbosity that one simply cannot resist.
Dr. Hale, a man of unparalleled intellect and seemingly unshakable self-assurance, has bestowed upon us a philosophical tapestry so rich, so intricately woven, that it beckons one to gaze upon it with awe and unmitigated reverence. His musings on the intrinsic duality of self—one’s innie and outie, if you will—are nothing short of revelatory. The audacity! The profundity! It is as though he has peered into the very sinews of the human condition and whispered, You are seen, you are known, and you are, indeed, you.
One cannot help but marvel at Hale’s deft hand in blending sagacity with the sheer poetry of his prose. Lines such as “Your you is not my you, but it is still you, you see?” left me in a state of breathless wonder, scribbling notes upon notes in the margins like an overzealous academic on the verge of intellectual rapture. And dare I say, the book’s sheer audacity to challenge our understanding of autonomy, of purpose, of the divine interconnectivity between one’s corporeal obligations and one’s metaphysical yearnings—it is simply chef’s kiss.
To those who would scoff at such introspection, who would cast aspersions upon the boundless enlightenment that awaits within these hallowed pages, I say this: Pity, for you shall never know the luminous resplendence of truly knowing oneself.
Read it. Absorb it. Let it baptize you in its unrelenting brilliance. For if The You You Are teaches us anything, it is that no matter the path, no matter the struggle, the truest you is waiting, ever so patiently, to be discovered.
A triumph, a revelation, a must-read. Bravo, Dr. Hale, bravo.
