It was ok

I had heard fairly good reviews for this book. I listened to the audio version, it took me a while, but I finally realized that the book wasn’t great and the narrator made it worse. She has a dull tone that drags a little and makes you kind of hate the main character. The narrator didn’t do men’s voices well either. The story is long and just kind of goes in a lot in various places. There are also way too many shootouts/bad guys (who want to steal virtue (and unfortunately do)) and bad situations, it starts to be expected. Including a rattlesnake that climbs up onto her 2 yo and Sarah is such a great shot that she hits it barely missing her daughter “whew, that was close!”. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Just like a cowboy movie. I felt like the main character was difficult to like and her thoughts always feel negative. There were parts about her I liked, but her personality overall was annoying. There were also too many loose ends overall. I’m not sure if reading a hard copy would have been better, maybe if I had been self narrating the characters would have bothered me less? Maybe not. Because the story consists of diary entries the book starts to feel a little bit like a list and not a true story (I know this is fiction). I do struggle getting into books if the story isn’t well written, and I often can guess what is happening next (that’s my father’s fault) many people are better at being surprised. It’s not exactly a great romance either, Sarah is tough to root for. I don’t know, and can’t decide, if the book is recommendable or not haha.

Awful narration

I can’t finish this audiobook because the narrator is so bad. Waste of money.
