WINNER OF THE NEBULA AND LOCUS AWARDS FOR BEST NOVELLA
“[An] exquisitely crafted tale...Part epistolary romance, part mind-blowing science fiction adventure, this dazzling story unfolds bit by bit, revealing layers of meaning as it plays with cause and effect, wildly imaginative technologies, and increasingly intricate wordplay...This short novel warrants multiple readings to fully unlock its complexities.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review).
From award-winning authors Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone comes an enthralling, romantic novel spanning time and space about two time-traveling rivals who fall in love and must change the past to ensure their future.
Among the ashes of a dying world, an agent of the Commandment finds a letter. It reads: Burn before reading.
Thus begins an unlikely correspondence between two rival agents hellbent on securing the best possible future for their warring factions. Now, what began as a taunt, a battlefield boast, becomes something more. Something epic. Something romantic. Something that could change the past and the future.
Except the discovery of their bond would mean the death of each of them. There’s still a war going on, after all. And someone has to win. That’s how war works, right?
Cowritten by two beloved and award-winning sci-fi writers, This Is How You Lose the Time War is an epic love story spanning time and space.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
If you adore enemies-to-lovers romances, you’re gonna love This Is How You Lose the Time War. Time-traveling spy Red’s job is to ensure that history will lead to her extremely technological timeline, but every key mission she attempts in the past is foiled by Blue, the enemy agent who’s shoring up her side’s more organic timeline. Soon, the two start leaving each other bantering, flirty notes across time and space, creating romantic and ethical dilemmas. Where do their true loyalties lie? And what possible future would allow these star-crossed lovers to be together? Co-authors Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone each wrote one side of the fictional duo’s lyrical, romantic, and mind-bending correspondence, and of course, each operative has her own narrator: Cynthia Farrell is the fiercely driven, somewhat clinical Red, while Emily Woo Zeller is the sweeter, but no less tough-minded, Blue. This novella-length audiobook is for anyone who believes that love must prevail, regardless of the obstacles.

Different but good
You’ll have to pay attention. Don’t listen if you just want to pop in once in a while, so to speak. It’s also not a terribly long book. About five hundred miles of driving, I’d say.
I like that it’s fairly hardcore sci-fi with no dragons, magic or swords. The plot? Two heroines battle for control of Time until they finally realize they are in love with each other, and run off together leaving someone else to figure out how to deal with Time. This story seems to really be a metaphor for certain situations in life, perhaps. The author likes to build very descriptive passages which I enjoyed. There is no actual racy or sexual content.
BLOWN AWAY
Just read it, listen to it, eat it, breathe it, bathe in it!!! An absolute masterpiece
A piece of trash
This book manages to be the trifecta -boring, pretentious and annoying all in one. I can only imagine it was written for the authors five or six friends who hope someday to have scholarly conversations that will impress the passersby in the food court.
