In this "vital book for these times" (Kirkus Reviews), Don Lemon brings his vast audience and experience as a reporter and a Black man to today's most urgent question: How can we end racism in America in our lifetimes?
The host of CNN Tonight with Don Lemon is more popular than ever. As America’s only Black prime-time anchor, Lemon and his daily monologues on racism and antiracism, on the failures of the Trump administration and of so many of our leaders, and on America’s systemic flaws speak for his millions of fans. Now, in an urgent, deeply personal, riveting plea, he shows us all how deep our problems lie, and what we can do to begin to fix them.
Beginning with a letter to one of his Black nephews, he proceeds with reporting and reflections on his slave ancestors, his upbringing in the shadows of segregation, and his adult confrontations with politicians, activists, and scholars. In doing so, Lemon offers a searing and poetic ultimatum to America. He visits the slave port where a direct ancestor was shackled and shipped to America. He recalls a slave uprising in Louisiana, just a few miles from his birthplace. And he takes us to the heart of the 2020 protests in New York City. As he writes to his young nephew: We must resist racism every single day. We must resist it with love.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
When journalist Don Lemon sat down to write his nephew a letter in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, he never knew it would bloom into this manifesto about combatting racism in America. As one of only two Black primetime news anchors in the U.S., Lemon has a unique perspective on racism through personal experience and careful news analysis. Whether he’s discussing his own deeply moving visit to the port where his enslaved ancestors were once shackled or the cultural impact of the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests, his clear takeaway remains strong: We can’t change the past, and we can’t wait for the future—we must end racism now. Lemon’s honesty and vulnerability is at the forefront as he gets into his personal experiences of racism, using those examples to illustrate a much larger story. Of course, as a seasoned broadcaster, his narration is nothing short of spellbinding. Both insightful and inspiring, This Is the Fire is a bold call to action.

Wonderful book
Wonderful book!!!
Don’t waste your time & money
I always read books on both sides of issues. Don Lemon is just another race-baiter trying to make another buck. Waste of my time and money.
Don, can I get a full refund?
Lemon Keeps It Real 100%
I’ve always enjoyed Don’s passion to remain true to the black race and it’s masterfully displayed in this audio! I’d hoped for more insightful views on the current administration & what the plans needed for the future look like!
