Publisher Description

Octavia Royal, the nation's princess.

More like, Octavia Royal, my life is a big hot mess.

My father’s death has me back in my hometown, and nothing is as I remember.

Echoes Cove Prep is a place where dreams go to die. Where everyone wants to be a mean girl, no matter what they sacrifice, and the three boys who were once my saviors run the place. Only now they’re my worst nightmare.

There’s something sinister writhing beneath the surface of Echoes Cove. Tangled up in the web of deadly secrets, a wicked game of survival, these people are about to learn...the venom that runs through this town runs through my veins, too….

And I’m not going anywhere.

“There’s something about Octavia Royal…”

Isn’t there always? This starts out very typical … rich girl, juuust enough under age that it can be set in highschool, recently orphaned when her absolutely perfect, loving dad meets his unexpected demise and her world is shattered. She’s forced to graduate from a specific school, if she wants to keep her inheritance. And we’re supposed to believe this, despite the fact that her dad was a wealthy, world-famous rockstar, and this girl doesn’t need any high school diploma, let alone one from a specific school, without any explanation. And of course, she’s instantly a pariah, not just at school but around the small town as well. Why? That’s never made clear.

But I can go with it because the lead female is very likable … she stands out. While this is a very commonly used plotline, she’s not like the rest of them—she doesn’t take the abuse lying down, she constantly stands up to or outsmarts her bullies.

As it goes on, a little, tiny bit of the ‘why’ comes out, but there are still more questions than answers. I had my suspicions throughout, it was very predictable, but that happens when nothing’s original anymore, no biggie. It was still pretty fun listening all the way through & seeing if my predictions came true.

And when there was still a couple hours left, I could just tell it would end on an epic cliffhanger …

There were a couple of continuity issues, but my reader experience was still ultimately good. Overall: 4 stars.

Hope to read on in the series and based on this one, would be open to reading more from this author.

Audio:
This is an example of the perfect audio ‘specimen’. High sound quality all-around, no extraneous sounds, no splicing in some bits, narrators have pleasant, smooth voices and just the right amount of attitude. Full cast, and they’re all absolutely brilliant. 5 stars.
