Sounds like each phrase has been engineered
This is the most halting, awful rendition I've heard in my years of teaching this novel. Mr. Hendrie has no style or cadence in his narration; it sounds as if the engineer has spliced his sentences together for a very jarring effect. One gets that for which one pays, I fear.
