Publisher Description
Trumps of Doom is the sixth book of The Chronicles of Amber; an epic fantasy series written by six-time Hugo Award winning and three-time Nebula Award winning author Roger Zelazny.
The ten books that make up the series are told in two story arcs: The Corwin Cycle and the Merlin Cycle.
Trumps of Doom begins the Merlin Cycle, with Alessandro Juliani handing over his narration duties to customer favorite Wil Wheaton, who won the 2012 Audie Award for his engaging performance of Fuzzy Nation. Wheaton brings this classic series to a stunning close by giving voice to Merlin, Corwin’s son, for the final five audiobooks.

Trumps of Doom
Here begins the second 5 book series of the Amber books by Roger Zelazny. The leading character of this second cycle is Merlin the son of Corwin who was the leading character in the original 5 book Amber series. The second cycle isn't up to the lofty level of the first but still thoroughly enjoyable. This first book picks up nicely from the original series and sets the tone for the second cycle. Enjoy.
Voice acting is so-so
I had just finished listening to the first five books of the Chronicles of Amber, read by Allessandro Juliano. The next five are read by Wil Wheaton. Juliano's reading provides a lot of different voice characterizations; Wheaton is not as skilled. It is sometimes not easy to tell when one character stops talking and another begins. Don't get me wrong: Wheaton is a fine orator, but his voice acting skills are nowhere near as polished as Juliano's. I am still on the first book; perhaps it will take some getting used to.
Wil Wheaton ruined the experience
Let me start out by saying that this book is really well written. Wheaton however is a different story. His voice acting is so poor that it fouls the entire book. Every character in the book sounds exactly same. The lack of effort he put into his performance is pathetic. I would recommend finding another version of the audiobook because this is garbage.
