Publisher Description
A blend of history, analysis, and theory, Understanding Socialism is an honest and approachable text that knocks down false narratives, confronts failures and challenges of various socialist experiments throughout history, and offers a path to a new socialism based on workplace democracy. This audio edition also incudes Richard D. Wolff's bestselling essay Understanding Marxism, which asks the question "Why should we pay attention to the great social critics like Marx?"

Things I wish I’d learned properly
Growing up in the Deep South in the ‘80s and ‘90s meant three things, lots of time out of the house unsupervised, sports, and an education laden with propaganda and bias… Oh! And sweet tea, of course! One of the important subjects I never learned about was Marxism. I never learned it was more a criticism of capitalism and less of an enemy to America. Much like my education of the Civil War, anything done by Marx was glossed over, misrepresented, or vilified. I truly wish that had been different.
Richard Wolff is an incredible educator and author. I strongly recommend this book. He breaks down the fundamentals and modernizes where relevant. You should read this no matter where you stand economically.
