When the recently widowed Melinda Monroe sees this ad, she quickly decides that the remote mountain town of Virgin River might be the perfect place to escape her heartache and to reenergize the nursing career she loves. But her high hopes are dashed within an hour of arriving—the cabin is a dump, the roads are treacherous and the local doctor wants nothing to do with her. Realizing she's made a huge mistake, Mel decides to leave town the following morning.
But a tiny baby abandoned on a front porch changes her plans…and former marine Jack Sheridan cements them into place.

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
When recently widowed nurse Melinda comes across a classified ad for a midwife in a small town (population 600) nestled in the California redwoods, she jumps on the opportunity to retreat from the big city and heal her broken heart. Unfortunately, the rundown village that greets her isn’t at all what she imagined. She’s just about ready to move back to L.A. when she discovers an abandoned baby on a front porch. For both Melinda and the whole town, the transformation that follows is absolutely inspiring. We loved watching Melinda grow as a person and rediscover her capacity to love. Narrator Therese Plummer perfectly captures that transformation as her reading of Melinda subtly shifts from guarded and cynical to sunny and warmhearted. The first book in an ongoing series, Virgin River has been adapted into a TV show. Hop on the opportunity to discover where the story began—and where it goes next.
