Great Story, Bad, Bad, BAD Narration

He tried his best, I'm sure, but this is just not good. SO many issues, for example, mispronouncing names: how is Tasslehoff's (pronounced how it looks) nickname pronounced "Toz" instead of "Tass"?? Also, it's HUma, not HOOma. There is almost no differentiation in character voices, everyone sounds the same. Furthermore, I roll my eyes WAY too much at his delivery of a character yelling. Really? You can just say the character yelled, you don't have to do that with your voice. We get it.

Chronicles & Legends

This review covers Chronicles and Legends because most people interested in buying this series want at least those 6-7 books. I do not review the books, only Audible's product.

Ax Norman - thankfully - no longer reads Chronicles. At some point in 2018, possibly early 2019, Chronicles was rerecorded with Paul Boehmer. Disregard any review before that point for Chronicles.

Boehmer is well above average, especially considering how difficult Dragonlance is to do. If you need someone to voice a dragon, a kender, a gnome and an elven princess (to say nothing of the rest) you're either going to want Harry Shear (who gets about a half-million per episode of the simpsons) or you're going to have to get a jack-of-many-trades-and-master-of-none. Considering this, Boehmer is simply outstanding, going well beyond what I could've hoped for.

But the Legends trilogy, as of this writing, is still read by Ax Norman. He is appalling. Outside of doing commercials for Doublemint gum, I'm not sure what merits his voice has. He does no character voices; everybody sounds exactly the same which can be confusing. He mispronounces names, and worst of all he sounds like he's reading it for the first time, pausing at the end of a line in the text rather than at the designated punctuation.

I've never met a Dragonlance fan who didn't think the Legends trilogy was as good as Dragonlance got. But Audible probably figures fixing Chronicles was 'good enough'.

DO NOT BUY LEGENDS AS L0NG AS IT'S AX NORMAN.
