Chapter 11 of Ivywhisker’s Truth!

Ivy stirred in her nest. She blinked her eyes as the world came into focus, the smudges of green, cream, and brown solidifying into shapes and colors. Her kits peacefully slept at her belly, now almost four moons old and eyes already open. Birch curled around her, his tail entwined with hers and his underbelly pressed against her back comfortably. His head was upright and looking alertly at the den entrance. When he saw that she was awake, he gave her a tender lick on the top of the head. Ivy nestled into him and tried to remember what the dream was that she had had. It had been in ThunderClan camp… all the cats gathered around… two chocolate-brown cats stood before the Highrock… where a black and white cat looked down to the waiting cats. And then that one word… •Ivywhisker•. She could see him say it. Even though the dream, or the memory of the dream, had no sound, she could see the reaction it produced. A few cats shifted uneasily, Darlingpaw, Blazegem, Mooncloud, and Skymoon lowered their heads in sadness, and Moonwater looked hopping mad. He yowled something, and Lightningstar responded calmly.
And suddenly, the world faded away and she was somewhere else. Trickery and Death smiled at her, greeting her like an old friend. She knew that when she had to come to this place, where they would either send her to StarClan, the Dark Forest, or… somewhere else to be a spirit, she would feel among friends and equals, strangely enough. Then the black void dissolved into melting snow dripping off tall trees and a warm newleaf sun. ThunderClan camp. Moonwater was yowling, “You can’t remember Ivywhisker for mentoring Darlingpaw for one day! She made her choices!”
Ivy felt a stab of pain in her heart, the wound Moonwater had driven into her soul when he took her name.
“Isn’t it time we invite her back? Old scars don’t need to stay infected. We can heal them and give her a choice. Stay here, or go back.” Lightningstar calmly meowed.
“You can’t! She broke the code!”
“So has Mooncloud. Two of Ivywhisker’s kits were hers. Yet you don’t see me renaming her Moon and banishing her, do you? We all make mistakes. The warrior code isn’t perfect, and neither are we.”
Ivy felt her heart swell as Moonwater smoothed his fur down. She saw something in his eyes as a silky white and gray tabby she-cat who she didn’t know came up to him and whispered in his ear. Four younger cats watched nearby with small, orange, black, and white kits. The tabby’s kits with her first mate, and then her kits with Moonwater? She could see Moonwater in the two youngest ones, long, fluffy tails and black and orange fur.
The deputy met Lightningstar’s calm gaze. “Alright, she can come back. But how will we find her? She’s probably not even in ThunderClan territory by now.”
She was, just buried deep underground. She’d actually heard a patrol of ThunderClan cats walk over her den.
Lightningstar somehow looked straight at her and meowed, “Somehow I don’t think that’s she’s too far away.”
Heh I’m still the cliffhanger cat 😼
